How to get to Szeged from Budapest

Address of the Conference venue:

Biological Research Centre (BRC)
HUN-REN Biological Research Centre, Szeged
Temesvári krt. 62.
6726 Szeged, Hungary

You have several transportation options depending on your starting location. Here are some general directions:

By Train:

Szeged has a well-connected railway station. We highly recommend to buy an InterCity (R) type of train ticket, so you will have a seat reservation.

Trains to Szeged depart every hour from downtown Budapest.
Travel duration is appr. 2.5 hours, with no transfer.
Price is appr. 4200 HUF / 1 way (appr. 11 Euros)
Train schedule at https://www.mavcsoport.hu/en

The trains from downtown Budapest to Szeged stop at Terminal 1 of the airport. The train station can be reached from Terminal 2 by a ten-minute taxi or bus ride. Buses 200 or 200E leave every 10 minutes from Terminal 2, day and night. The name of the train station is “Ferihegyi vasútállomás” („Ferihegyi train station”).

Suggestions: As the Ferihegyi railway station is quite small with limited infrastructure, and trains to Szeged depart every hour, we recommend to check the time-table in advance, and wait at the airport (coffee, rest room, etc.) rather than at the railway station.
At the railway station, you can buy your ticket from a vending machine. Or use MAV application to buy your online ticket:https://www.mavcsoport.hu/en

By Car:

There are several car rental companies at the airport, including well-known international companies.

If travelling by car, please use a navigation app or GPS to find the best route to your hotel in Szeged. From Budapest to Szeged use the M5 motorway. Duration is appr. 2 hrs.

In Hungary, motorways, expressways, and specific sections of national roads require a toll (https://en.autovignet.hu/toll-roads/ ), which is paid by purchasing a digital e-vignette. The vignette is linked to the vehicle registration number (license plate number) and can be purchased at gas stations or online, e.g. on the https://www.hungary-vignette.eu/en/ website. When renting, ask whether the price includes e-vignette.

By door-to-door shuttle service

Airport shuttle bus service has to be booked online in advance. We recommend: https://www.zoldtranszfer.hu/eng.html

Taxi

The easiest way to travel from the airport to Szeged is by taxi or Uber, although this is by far the most expensive way, costs appr. 140 Euros/one way.

By Bus

Intercity buses also operate to and from Szeged. You can check bus schedules and purchase tickets in advance, BUT we do not really suggest travelling by bus, as the duration is 3-3.5 hrs, and you have to transfer!

The use of the BRC parking lot is free. The entrance is controlled by a license plate recognition automatic gate, so please notify the local organizer, Péter Vilmos (vilmosp[at]brc.hu), of your parking request with your license plate number in advance.
