The Biological Research Centre, Szeged (Szegedi Biológiai Kutatóközpont, SzBK) was founded in 1971, and it is the largest basic research facility of Hungarian biological research. Its activity covers all areas of modern biology and today employs about 260 scientists whose work is hall-marked by highly appreciated international scientific publications and patents. The BRC is organized into four institutes, corresponding to the diversity of the investigated fields: biophysics, biochemistry, genetics, and plant biology. The institute has several specialized laboratories, so-called 'Core Facilities', such as the laboratory of Functional genomics, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Sequencing, Cellular imaging, and X-Ray crystallography. Most of the core facilities also work on their own research projects. The successful activity and high-level scientific research pursued in BRC were also acknowledged by the European Molecular Biological Organization (EMBO) and in 2000 the European Union awarded the title of "Centre of Excellence" to the BRC.

The use of the BRC parking lot is free. The entrance is controlled by a license plate recognition automatic gate, so please notify the local organizer, Péter Vilmos (vilmosp[at]brc.hu), of your parking request with your license plate number in advance.
